A very enjoyable walk of two halves The northern half is clearly waymarked. I found the southern half a little difficult to follow from Winterton 'Fishermans Return' to the path leading to Mill Farm and ended up going past the broiler farm and along Edward Road. The alternative route is easy to follow as long as you turn right At Manor Farm. The waymarkers both indicate left. The alternative route ends at the junction of Low Road and North Market Road in the centre of Winterton right on the fringes of the heath. The route is mostly dog friendly and my two border collies seemed to have a good time of it. We also saw plenty of seals hauled up on the beach. A very good day out and a route well worth trying as it is mostly easy walking.

Walked this one today. Beware! There are few signposts so you'll need a map but it was a lovely varied walk and the views across to the beach from the dunes are gorgeous.

This is a lovely walk, but needed the map as there seem to be a few missing signs.

We did this walk on a wonderful spring day. Easy to follow once we found the steps up from the dunes south of Winterton! It was good to have a peek at the beautiful buildings of Burnley Hall in East Somerton too. A varied landscape walk but all on the flat. Plenty of birds to see en route so don't forget your binoculars. The beach cafe is a welcome refreshment stop.

Very nice walk good paths and signed very well we thought that it was more than 6 miles. We did this in Jan 2011 and it was great so this walk in the summer must be fantastic.

Thank you for your comments on this walk. We have inspected the route to ensure all signposts are in order. The walk starts from Beach Road (parking by the village hall on King Street) and runs through the dunes for roughly 600 metres until a path leads off to the right towards a substantial set of steps, with Circular walks signs. We hope that this is sufficient until we can update the map. We welcome any further comments.

A great walk. We started in East Sommerton and just did the top loop (using the alternative route in black to get back to start). Would recommend taking a short detour when you get to the top most easterly point (winterton ness) and go north, for about 15mins (each way), to a viewing platform where you can see seals on the beach.

A good site but agree that the map is impossible to read. It needs to be higher resolution so you can read the street/place names. Also some walking notes would be helpful.

The high-lite was certainly St Marys church in East Somerton. I would recomend that you start from there and commence to the beach, as the first half of the walk is slightly boring with nothing to see.

Walked this walk on Tuesday 20th June 2006, which was a beautiful sunny day with a slight cooling breeze, perfect in fact. The first part of the walk, along the dunes, through an estate of holiday homes and across and along a very dangerous road, was a little off-putting. At this point we almost retraced our steps and gave up but we pressed on and I am I so glad we did! From that point on the walk is a delight. We saw fields of poppies and heard, first time in years, the call of numerous yellow hammers (?a little bit of bread and no cheese?). We encountered a lovely avenue of lime trees which dripped on us as we walked. A wonderful walk with much to recommend it; it is on my list for a re-visit at some point. Would dispute the 6 miles though, I feel it was longer than that. Next time I walk it I will use my pedometer.

Previous comments about the old Church ruins were right... fascinating and magical. A great easy (Dry footed) walk in a beautiful area. Easy to follow map thankyou. If doing the short walk, keep your eyes peeled for the statue of the "Lady in the bath". Hilarious if you spot it.

I`m not sure if it`s just me but I`ve found it very difficult to print off a map with any detail on it. Are there no walking notes to accompany this?

We walked this in january, took a nice easy pace, fantastic views for a normally flat norfolk, very easy to follow route, different terrain, look out for the dis-used church after about 4 miles it`s amazing.

On a glorious November day we decided to head for the coast and had a lovely one and a half hours walk through the farms, past the wind pumps, round the edges of a country estate and finally along the beach. It was all easy walking and well signposted. Truly glorious. We finished up at the Fishermans Return for a delicious meal.
